Comments:
  •  Routinely reported as Iron, TIBC and Saturation Index
  •  Ferritin preferred test for determining iron status
  •  STAT Iron available only in cases of suspected overdose

  •  Iron and TIBC are the preferred screening tests for hemochromatosis /
     hemosiderosis
  •  Saturation Index >0.60 and an iron concentration of >35 umol/L may be 
     expected in hemochromatosis/hemosiderosis
  
CAUTION:  Iron level monitoring during therapy with iron chelating agents (eg. deferoxamine, deferasirox, deferiprone) is not recommended.  If required, testing may resume >24 hours after cessation of therapy
